Stage Gate  – New Product Development process

Save time and money by establishing a development pathway.

Develop evidence before committing resources.

D@GM helps businesses establish a development pathway with defined stages, decision owners and evidence requirements. Each stage answers a different question, from whether a customer need exists to whether the product and its supply arrangements are ready for launch. Gates provide a point to proceed, pause for further work, redirect or stop before the next investment.

Build the business case.

Discovery captures the problem, user needs and possible solutions. Scoping examines the market, competing products, technical feasibility and likely manufacturing constraints. The business case brings these findings together with target pricing, development costs, margins, timing and key risks. Assumptions are recorded so they can be tested rather than treated as established facts.

Develop and validate the product

Development translates the agreed requirements into a product and supporting documentation. Spawn Design can undertake industrial design, CAD and prototype development, while D@GM coordinates milestones, supplier input and decision records. Testing then checks the product against agreed performance and acceptance criteria. Results, unresolved defects and manufacturing readiness inform the launch decision.

Review after launch.

The review compares actual product performance, customer feedback, quality, costs and supply reliability with the business case. Corrective actions feed into the next design revision and future projects. The scope and number of gates should suit the complexity and risk of the product.
